Why do I need selection in counter weight?

Counter weight is used to add pressure to the clutch disc as the run progresses.  It uses the centrifugal force generated by the spinning of the clutch on the fingers.  As the engine turns more RPM, so does the clutch and thus adds more pressure for every RPM turned.

How do I tune with counter weight?

The best tool you can have when tuning a clutch is a data logger that records Drive Shaft RPM, Clutch RPM, and Engine RPM.  This is so that you can see how well the clutch is able to match the engine rpm, while not allowing the rear tires to accelerate too quickly causing the tires to spin.  A good graph on a run will show a small amount of slippage in the clutch to engine ratio on the gear changes, which keeps the car from being disrupted during the gear change!  Using counter weight is how you adjust for these changes in track conditions, engine hp, air, etc...  By adding and subtracting the amount of counter weight used, you can better tune your car for quicker E.T.

NOTE: When making counter weight adjustments, you must also figure the amount of actual base pressure you are running as one directly can effect the other!

Please feel free to call today and speak with us about exactly what best suits you.  Please have the following information available.

Engine Size, Power Adders, Vehicle Weight, Transmission Ratios, Rear End Ratio, Max RPM, and Clutch Type.

Often times when you are wanting to get a good counter weight setup, you look to the normal places for some help, and the only thing you can get is a small little box with enough in it to make up half of what you need.  We offer different levels of counter weight broken down by different applications.  In addition, if you are in need of something special, or would like some consultation on what you need, give us a call.

Ultra Light

This is for sintered iron types of clutch applications in the Soft-Loc style.  Normally useers are attempting to get the clutch to slip and have trouble doing so, however when they need to add or subtract counter, they need to do it in very light and small increments.  This kit is made up of aluminum and nylon nuts and bolts and allows for adjustments between measurements of less than a gram.  Use this style when seeking less than 20 grams of counter weight total!

$40.00

Light

This is also towards the same clutch type as listed above, however some applications have the need for just a little more.  In this kit we add light weight aluminum and steel washers to made adjustments in a more aggressive manor.

$40.00

Average

This is for people wanting to achieve weights between 45 grams and 100 grams total.  It can be used on conventional types of clutches as well as on fully adjustable billet clutches.  This gives users a good base to tune from and provides plenty of options.

$40.00

Heavy Duty

This is simply for the heavy weights!  When you are running your clutch setup with all counter and very little base pressure, you need bolts and nuts that get you close quickly, with the ability to add and subtract washer to fine tune.  Use this for 100 to 250 gram applications.

$45.00

Pro

This is everything you would ever need!  It comes with Nylon, Aluminum, Steel, and Rubber components.  It allows for ultra fine tune adjustments.  With this kit you can achieve everything from 3 grams to 250 grams and almost anywhere in between!
